#ootd: the snow edition

uniqlo ultra light down jacket

Do I look like a proper New Yorker yet? Albeit a little ragamuffin-like from the incessant snowing?

I’ll take whatever I can get.

The outfit’s pretty basic — I have yet to find a statement coat that (a) is actually warm and (b) not Burberry Prorsum or Preen, i.e., in my budget — but incredibly functional in terms practicality. Warmth Staying alive is a priority when you’re trudging through a NY/NJ winter! It’s no Midwest by any means, but I’m a bit of a baby when it comes to temperature readings below 45 degrees. I think this puffer of mine deserves a mention if not as a fashion-meets-function PSA; I’m always getting asked on the street/subway/Starbucks who my jacket’s by and if it’s current season. And we all know passing the test of having random strangers’ approval (not that it should matter) is quite the feat…

Introducing… the Uniqlo Ultra Light Down Hooded Coat. For starters, the price point is pretty much unbeatable; couple that with quality and it’s what you’d call the real deal. It’s nearly weightless — it’s one of those packable coats — and yet it somehow keeps you warm even when waiting in a queue, in the snow, for at least half an hour. The fit and length are what I love most about it: as a petite girl with her fair share of curves, traditional signs of warmth (heavy layers, thick wools and knits, marshmallow-y down puffers) are highly unflattering and look more like the-Abominable-Snowman’s-Stumpy-Cousin than Snow-Bunny-Chic. This Uniqlo number, however, still shows shape sans the unnecessary bulk.

Beginning to wish they made it in a red or aubergine, it’d be a lovely change from the usual black, but then again, it wouldn’t be very New Yorker of me now, would it?
