26 ways to instantly feel happier

oscar wilde happiness quote

  1. Call up your best friend.
  2. Listen to your favorite songs from what feels like a lifetime ago (my feel-good playlist features all the songs I loved during my senior year of high school and freshman year of college; ah, a throwback to when I was young and naive).
  3. Curl up by a window with a cup of tea + a new book.
  4. Binge-watch a TV series (my guilty pleasure is SATC, predictably).
  5. Get a new bathrobe (the plusher the better), brew tea with lemon + ginger, start a DIY at-home facial. Light candles, steam your face, apply a mask to your hair + face, and marinate in yourself in an extravagant bath.
  6. Sleep.
  7. Clean + re-organize the room where you spend the majority of your time.
  8. Change your alarm to “Good Morning” by John Legend. Trust—it’ll make waking up easier and early mornings sweeter.
  9. Disconnect from social media for a day…
  10. … or take it one step further + unplug from technology.
  11. Write a journal entry.
  12. Buy a new nail polish for a fresh mani/pedi.
  13. Practice yoga or Pilates.
  14. Relax in a steam room, then refresh with a green juice.
  15. Be inspired by a new lifestyle! Pick up a copy of The Beauty Detox or Deliciously Ella and start flipping through. Change—for the better—is exciting.
  16. Visit an art gallery.
  17. Take a walk, armed with a camera (or phone, whatever’s your jam) and/or good music.
  18. Dance in your silkiest robe or laciest lingerie. Don’t laugh. Just do it.
  19. Light your favorite candle.
  20. Buy yourself a bouquet of fresh flowers.
  21. Cuddle. With someone you love.
  22. Order pizza and enjoy with prosecco. Or, if ice cream direct from the tub is more your speed, do that instead.
  23. Sit outside, preferably in a garden or park. Don’t forget bug repellent and sunscreen.
  24. Self-tan. If ever there were a satisfying, instant pick-me-up, it’s a good bronze.
  25. Watch Aziz Ansari. Hilarious, smart, and socially conscious = my type of comedian.
  26. Bring out a stack of old magazines. Flip through and tear out the images (or words) that speak to you. Collage a few pages as a start for an inspiration binder, or create moodboards for your work space, living space, or wardrobe. Then, recycle the unused stuff—you get your dose of inspiration and some de-cluttering done in one sweep.
