oh, for the love of filofax!

could tell you that I bounded down the stairs in little more than a satin pyjama set to greet the handsome postman, sign off on the package, and bounce back upstairs where I ripped layers of tissue with such vigor and fervor I nearly gave myself a paper cut.

In actuality, however, it was too cold for my satin play shorts; sweatpants just made more sense. I may have raced down the steps to check for my package (okay, I did) and stole back into my room, pausing only to get the heavy-duty kitchen shears to slice open the packing tape. No tissue paper was a-flyin’ as I sat cross-legged on my bed; even as a little girl I carefully unwrapped my presents as to not tear or crinkle a thing.

Thus began the ritualistic un-boxing of my new Filofax:

If I were a kitten I’d purr. Isn’t she a beauty? Lush, textured leather, soft to the touch and flexible at your writing whims.

A 1 a.m. epiphany had me at the realization that a Filofax was what I needed for this fresh start I craved. This girl — this small (-ish) town girl with big city dreams – deserved an upgrade! Days before I deliberated over the Personal-sized Chameleon in black; at a 60% discount it was nearly impossible, if not downright foolish, to ignore. This girl, this karmic retribution and chakras believing girl, took it as a sign that it was meant to be.

Hours later I was then perched at the edge of my chair in a cold sweat. I get turned on by the idea of housing all of my creativity and organizing my life in one place. Add to cart. No more hesitation; a week was enough deliberation. The Chameleon wasn’t even in my possession and already my organizational urges reached new heights. I thought in Martha Stewart Avery labels and German pens, I dreamt in (literally) strategic inserts and lavender-lined papers.

You can only imagine the organizing spree I embarked upon afterwards…

  1. I love how you began with a hypothetical “I could tell you…etc.” complete with a fanciful daydream of what you would like us all to imagine! That’s good writing! And second… I LOVe that you still use a thing like a filofax!!! Totally 90′s and no one uses these fabulous things anymore! They store it all on their iphones, iclouds, blackberrys etc. Using paper products is so essential I think. Enjoy!

    • agreed with you there, i visit her blog more for her adorable writing. plus, this photography is fantastic! it’s like we’re getting hints of your personality each time, and you’re definitely someone who intrigues me: a tech-savvy girl (with great style!) but loves an old-fashioned agenda? i can’t believe you’re 20 and this chic.

    • Oh but people still do use 90′s style planners…there’s a whole community of them on the Philofaxy blog and on you tube, using technology and planners together!

    • Really? It means the world coming from you (as you know, I admire your writing so much!). People say I’m an old soul and I can’t disagree with that – I love the finality and the tangibility of paper, it seems so much more meaningful to me.

      And thank you! x

  2. Thoroughly enjoyed this post…and your taste in Filofax’s. I have a Black Chameleon as well and now I feel the need to also paint my nails black to match! :)

  3. Wow that was odd. I just wrote an really long comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn’t show up. Grrrr… well I’m not writing all that over again.

Anyway, just wanted to say superb blog!

  4. Oh my gosh I’m glad to know there are others who use agendas/planners rather than storing everything on their smartphone! It’s just something about writing on paper and the stationary that sparks creativity. Love your blog, by the way; each time I read a post I’m like, “me too!” haha.
